Student in a facebook forum asked the following questions. If you come accross a similar question please see my response below:
Proven EC certified interventions for impaired bed mobility please. ?? 1) encourage pt to use side rails while repositioning? 2) encourage pt to push up in bed with elbows? 3) encourage pt to bend unaffected knee and push up in bed? (assuming one knee is weak etc)
Another Student:
I used "encourage use of side rail" and "encourage pt to push up with heels" and passed.
My Response:
Hi Ashley, there is some confusion between the "Assess" and the "Interventions". All the above interventions would work that are listed by you and Jeannie. What I'm hearing from students recently is what the CEs are getting particular about is the ASSESS. The CEs no longer want to see Assess patients ability to reposition self. They actually now want to see something like Assess patient's ability to reposition using siderails OR Assess patient's ability to reposition self by bending legs and pushing self up in bed.
